The Story Behind
The General

His stage name wasn't chosen. It was earned.

A university-trained musician with an instinct for the spaces between notes, Kevin "The General" Neal has built one of the most respected reputations in Canadian country music — not through self-promotion, but through the undeniable authority of his playing.

Based in Hamilton, Ontario, Kevin's career spans decades of live performance, studio sessions, and collaborative work with artists at every level. His primary instrument is the pedal steel guitar, though he is equally accomplished on dobro.

On Stage

Kevin has shared stages with some of the biggest names in North American country, performing at landmark venues and festivals including the Calgary Stampede, Mariposa Folk Festival, and other major festival stages around the world.

In the Studio & On the Road

Kevin has recorded with artists across multiple genres and continents. His longstanding work with Jade Eagleson — from the studio recording of Steal My Girl to Eagleson's 2025–2026 Coming Soon to a Honky Tonk Near You headlining tour across Canada and the U.S. — reflects the trust that top-tier artists place in his playing. His session and touring work spans CMA Fest, CCMA Awards stages, the Calgary Stampede, K-Days, Cavendish Beach, and beyond.

Recognition

Twice nominated for CCMA Pedal Steel Player of the Year, Kevin's credentials come from the people who know the instrument best — fellow musicians and industry peers who recognize the rare combination of technical mastery and musical intelligence he brings to every room.

His approach is systematic, tactical, and unfailingly musical. He reads a room, serves the song, and elevates the artist.
